“Lily”

“Fulton”

“Bella & Charlie

Last night Lily was a very busy bunny. I was watching her on the webcam after I put the downstairs bunnies “to bed” and suddenly she erupted into a series of bunny runs and binkies. It was even loud enough for me to hear! She’s not too active during the day when I’ve seen her, so I guess she exercises at night. Go girl, go!

Fulton is finally spending more time on the couch. Now he jumps up whenever someone comes in to beg for his treat. He came over to say hello to Lily in the afternoon and they were both a little shy about it. Aw! Neither has a bunny friend at home so maybe they like having another member of their species to communicate with here. I always try and encourage bunny socialization.

These two buns are the fluffy versions of my Charlie and Bella. One white girl, and one spotted boy. Fulton is a lot like Charlie in personality, but Lily is nothing like my Bella. She’s a bit timid and nice, while Bella is fearless, very active and doesn’t appreciate needless bothering. Lately, Bella has been digging in the litter box / pad area every night. She’s been waking me up at 8:45 everyday. I guess she wants me to get up early. Today, actually, was the first day in a while that she did NOT dig during the night. I guess she was trying to be nice and let me sleep, so she started digger AFTER I woke up!

“Lily”

Jeffrey went home last night, and was very happy to see his family. We’ll miss the little piggy, but know he’ll be happy to be home with his pet dog.

Last night my brother pet Fulton for a very long time. He purred a lot and at one point my brother got up to leave and Fulton didn’t want him to stop. Aw! So, he stayed a bit longer and Fulton was happy. My brother likes to get a bunny to lay down, but Fulton was a tough cookie. He’s stubborn, just like my Charlie.

Fluffy Lily arrived this morning. I always love seeing her again. She’s by far the fluffiest rabbit we’ve had here. I’ve only seen more fluff in angora rabbits. She’s a little skittish so she was running around a bit earlier today, but seems generally satisfied with her accommodations. Hershey came over to see her and Fulton even slunk out his little cubby and came over to the fence to say “hello” to Lily.

Fulton runs over every time we come in for a treat. He dances around us just like my Charlie. He’s so much like him, in manner and appearance. When the mail came this morning he got a little frightened and started thumping, but a cookie quickly calmed him down. Fortunately Butterscotch didn’t receive the call and start thumping himself. He’s a sympathetic thumper.

Butterscotch and Hershey are happy to have more space back. They’re still confined to the dining room, but they can see into the living room now and upstairs a little as well. Hershey is definitely happier when he knows what’s going on in the house.

Jeffrey came over for a snuggle last night and liked running circles around me on the floor. I guess I make a good obstacle course for a guinea pig. Best part is not having to worry about being nipped under my legs like I do with rabbits. Jeffrey’s not as impatient about getting obstacles out of his way!

Yesterday I had to replace the power supply on my brother’s computer so he borrowed my laptop for a little while. He complained there was bunny fur in the keyboard. Oops! Occupational hazard I’m afraid.

“Motley Chue”

Motley Chue went home this morning, so now we’re down to 5 rabbits a guinea pig. Fulton has been eating all of his greens and most pellets. He always comes over to anyone begging for treats. He’s a really good beggar! When Motley left we made pens bigger and now he can see more. He was going over to Jeffrey this morning and saying hello. I’m glad neither is afraid of the other.

Jeffrey is pretty happy no matter what we do. Now he’s got another bunny to talk to, even if they don’t’ really understand each other. he does have this habit of tipping his pellets out of his bowl and hay out of a basket, but I’m used to much bigger messes than that. My family has really fallen in love with Jeffrey. We’ve never really spent any time with guinea pigs before and he’s such a sweetie. He’s definitely welcome back any time! h

“Motley Chue”

Yesterday we moved Jeffrey over a little to make room for Fulton. He’s next to Butterscotch and Hershey now and they both want to really see him. Hershey stretched up over the cardboard between them and Butterscotch is right at the plastic window saying “hello.” Jeffrey is right next to our Christmas tree now and his favorite new place to sleep is right near it. It’s so cute. He’s also in the line of sight from upstairs, so now Charlie and Bella can see him from the top of the stairs. I don’t think they know what to make of the little guy.

Fulton arrived in the afternoon and initially was not really interested in the other rabbits and guinea pig. He spent most of the day sleeping in his favorite spot, the far end of the coffee table. He did come out in the evening to see Motley and Jeffrey, but he was mostly interested in me coming over to give him his veggie treats. He came up on the couch once too looking for treats.

Motley wanted to see Fulton, but since he was hiding most of the day she had to settle for Jeffrey. He was making little *week* noises this morning when I came to see them.

With all of the new activity in the house Butterscotch hopped onto the chair in his pen to get a better look, and wound up falling asleep up there. We just happened to see him loafed up on top of the chair, fast asleep in the afternoon. Is there anything more adorable than that?

Licks, Dreidels & Snores

“Motley Chue”

“Jeffrey”

I had some nice petting sessions with Jeffrey yesterday and he even licked me a little once. He seems to like his back pet and if he’s really enjoying it, he’ll lay down flat like a pancake and stretch his legs out while he purrs. He gives much more a response to petting than rabbits do. Sometimes I’m lucky if they just let me pet them while they’re already lying down.

Last night my brother and I were playing dreidel in the dining room on the floor. It was pretty much the only space on that floor of the house with enough room to do it. Of course, Hershey and Butterscotch had to come over and see what we were doing. I thought they would start chewing on the dreidels, but they mostly just wanted to check up on what was going on in “their room”. It we’d been using real chocolate gelt, then I’m sure they would have gone for that!

Motley was a happy bunny last night, binkying all over her pen. She’s a big bun so she got some nice air! Today my mom heard a noise and figured it was a far off car alarm going off. Then she realized, no- it was Motley snoring! Every day we seem to think it’s something else! Bunnies snoring is just adorable.

Is it Time for Presents Yet??

“Butterscotch & Hershey”

“Jeffrey”

“Motley Chue”

Boy are all the little furry friends in my house happy today! Some presents were had last night, the rest this morning.

It was Hershey and Butterscotch’s first Christmas with us and I think they got the hang of it pretty fast. Once they realized their presents had fun things inside they were excited. Their favorite toy was a willow ring that they kept stealing from each other. By this morning, the ring had been chewed apart entirely! The boys also got a big Cottontail cottage present a couple of weeks early. So far they’ve only made it up to the second floor. I expect Hershey to destroy it soon.

Bella and Charlie prefer the wrapping paper and boxes to all their presents. Their favorite present was the willow tent I got for them. I’d been trying to get one since the summer, but it was out of stock until recently. Bella preferred the treats in her stocking to the toys. She even grunted at me to get away when I gave them to her. “Mine!” She woke me up at 2:45 this morning digging in the litter box, but I told her that Santa hadn’t been here yet and she had to go back to sleep.

Jeffrey didn’t want to come out of his cage in the morning so we just gave him some treats by hand. He seemed to prefer his hay, but didn’t mind taking a raisin from us. Jeffrey licked my mom when she was petting him. He’s such a friendly guinea pig! I didn’t know as much about them as rabbits so I did a little research so I can interact with him better. Apparently not all pigs like being petted or as friendly as he. Nothing seems to faze the little guy.

Motley was pretty happy to get her treats. I think she wants the attention more than anything else. She’s always coming over to the fence when someone goes by and puts her head right down for some petting. When Motley moves around her pen it sounds like a human. She’s a big bun with big feet and certainly makes herself heard!

“Motley Chue”

“Jeffrey”

My mom and I both got to pet Jeffrey yesterday and he even purred! Guinea pig purrs are a little different from rabbits. He sounds like he’s making a trilling noise. When rabbits purr it’s because they’re slightly grinding their teeth, but Jeffrey vocalizes. It’s very cute. He even went over to Hershey at the fence and made some noises at him. I guess he’s trying to talk to him, but I don’t know if Hershey understands his language.

French Lop Motley Chue arrived last night and everyone came over to see her. She’s a big rabbit, but little Jeffrey was not afraid. Hershey came over and puffed up his chest to show he wasn’t scared either. For once he’s not the smallest critter in the house, but he always wants to be the biggest. My brother heard Motley snoring this morning, she does that a lot. He said he thought it was the washing machine at first! It doesn’t sound like my Charlie’s snores, but I guess every rabbit snores differently.

“Hershey & Butterscotch”

Yesterday we received a package of bunny toys from one of our frequent bunny visitors, Rusty! I couldn’t make our buns wait until Christmas, so they each got one toy yesterday to play with. So far they’re a big hit! Bella and Charlie love tossing them around, and Butterscotch and Hershey are having fun ripping them apart. Ah, it’s not Christmas until someone makes a real go at destroying their new toy!

I gave Jeffrey a little wicker ball too, so he didn’t feel left out. He’s been spending about half of the day in his cage sleeping in his little igloo, and the rest out in his pen munching on hay and looking at the bunnies. Butters and Hershey aren’t afraid of him any more and now they love running around the fence to look at him. Hershey follows him when he moves around in his pen and gets as close to the fences as he can. Butters still likes to keep about a one foot buffer between him and the fence, but he’s definitely curious.
