“Charlie & Piper”

“Hershey & Butterscotch”

This year the Kronenbuns are the original quartet from Star Wars: Charlie as Luke Skywalker, Piper as Princess Leia, Hershey as Han Solo, and Butterscotch as Chewbacca. Happy Halloween!

We had a few cold days this past week, and temps in the house dropped below 70. My Hershey is a Mini Rex with short fur, so he always looks for the warm spots. He snuggles up against heat convector on the floor. I guess that’s warmer than snuggling with his brother!

My Charlie has gotten very good at begging. I try and sneak him pellets throughout the day when I’m around since his mate would eat everything I give them otherwise. Now he comes over and asks me for food whenever I come near him. He even goes and begs my mom across the hall. “Just place the pellet into my mouth, please!”

My dad’s winter coat came out of storage for the season and it happened to be sitting on his bed when my Piper came hopping up to do her daily reconnaissance. “What is this thing?” she wondered. We had to explain to her that Daddy doesn’t have fur so he needs a coat to keep warm. I don’t think she quite understood, but was happy to keep sniffing it!

Bunny has gotten quite comfortable at my house. She doesn’t seem as impressed with my boys as when she first got here. Sorry Hershey, you gotta work to keep the girls interested! She loves snuggling with me on the couch at night, and I like having a satiny silky lap warmer. So sad she’s going home, but I know she’ll be back!

Little Nicki went home this morning, but little Bunny is still with us for a couple of days. Nicki did his evening runs last night with my lap as part of the course. Miss you Nicki! My boys are happy to have the extra space back from Nicki, and have already gone over to say hello to Bunny again. My Butterscotch is a great host, but Hershey can be a little gruff. It’s HIS house, and every-bun knows it (according to him)!

The weather has gotten chillier here so I’m wearing a big fluffy sweater, and the bunnies just love it! Both Bunny and Nicki climbed all over me on the couch. Bunny enjoyed nibbling on it and Nicki snuggled in my lap. I myself prefer the warmer months, but I guess when you’ve already got a fur coat on, winter is more your style.

“Bunny & Nicki”

Bunny and Nicki are total fence-buddies. They’re too adorable. “I found another bunny who’s just my size!’ They’re both about a foot long and are very energetic little fur balls. At night when I close up their window view, Nicki hops up onto the couch and sleeps up there, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. I can’t get him up on the couch with me to snuggle for more than a few minutes at a time, but I guess they’re always going to prefer their own species over me. I understand, I’d much rather have a bunny snuggle on the couch with me than a human, they’re softer, don’t hog as much space, and smell a lot nicer than most humans!

Nicki may be a little bunny, but he moves around like lightning. He loves running laps around his pen and then he binkys like a jumping bean. He could easily provide endless hours of entertainment! So far he and Bunny are getting along. I’m leaving their window open all day, except at night, and they both seem totally comfortable. How do I know this, you may ask? They both have no problem eating in front of each other, and flopping down to sleep with their stomachs toward one another. It’s always nice to make a new friend at Kamp!

There’s a new roommate for Bunny at Kamp Kronenberg! He’s just her size, another little bun with a super sweet disposition. It’s Nicki’s second stay with us but he seems settled in already. He’s eating running around his pen, and has picked a couple of good napping spots too. I’ll open up the “window” between their pens later so they can get acquainted.

Afternoon Napping

Bunny seems to take her afternoon nap until 7pm in the evening. If I try and visit with her before that, she’s usually sleeping up against the fence, where she can catch a glimpse of my boys. Once 7 rolls around, she springs into action, literally, and jumps up on the couch to say hello to me. Plenty of other rabbits follow a similar schedule, as wild rabbits are crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk). Long afternoon nap and then time to party, sounds good to me!

Every night when I put Bunny to bed, I put cardboard up blocking the view between her and the other rabbits. That way they can relax and don’t need to be on alert to see what the other buns are doing, which would be more difficult in the darkened room. Then every morning I take the cardboard down and everyone comes over to fences to say hello. This morning, I went over and pet my Hershey for a few minutes, until he heard Bunny biting at the fence. “She’s awake!” He ran right over to her and gave her a great big “Good Morning!” For rabbits that means staring a sniffing through the plastic window between their fences.
