Bowl-Throwing

“Sadie”

“Matilda”

Matilda is nearing the end of her stay here at Kamp Kronenberg. It’s been such a pleasure to have her. She’s a real sweetie! Lops seem to be that way. Something in their temperament is generally calmer than the “up-ears” rabbits I’ve known.

Sadie dumped pellets quite loudly twice last night. She was throwing her bowl around. After fixing it twice, I left it and she didn’t do it again. I was going to just leave if she did. Maybe she’s trying to send a message. It wouldn’t be the first time in this house that a bunny preferred the floor to a bowl!

“Sadie”

Sadie was in the kitchen with me again yesterday. She was mad she couldn’t go under the table, but I can only let her go where it’s safe when I can’t watch her every move. She thumped at me in indignation. Later on she thumped at the toaster oven ticking too. Thumps are all purpose!

My mom made a noise downstairs last night that had Sadie, Piper and Butterscotch thumping. Hershey never thumps at things and Matilda didn’t seem fazed. Fortunately everyone calmed down pretty quickly. When Piper first came downstairs, she was afraid of the microwave. She still startles at new noises. It’s funny since she’s so big, but she’s really just a baby so everything is new to her.

“Matilda”

“Butterscotch”

Yesterday we clipped visitor Matilda and my Butterscotch’s nails. We did it on the kitchen island which is a little higher than the dining room table. I’m only able to do the front nails minus the dew claws that way, but I can do eight nails alone then and just need assistance for the rest. This was probably the best behaved Butterscotch was for nail clipping. Maybe being in the kitchen threw him off.

Matilda though, was such a little angel! She didn’t even seem like she minded. She just lay there while I clipped and didn’t struggle at all when she was held for the back feet. She was as well behaved as my Hershey and Charlie, and they’re both really smart. Good job girl!

Both buns had a view of Sadie while we clipping, as her pen is just outside the kitchen door. Sadie didn’t seem to pay any attention to the commotion in the kitchen. I doubt she would have liked it if she were next though!

“Sadie”

We let Sadie in the kitchen during dinner last night and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. She hopped under the table and looked at herself in the oven door. She even tried to go in the TV cart but I stopped her before she could get at any wires.

Every night at dinner I give all the buns a little piece of carrot. Matilda never seems to find her carrots until after dinner. All the others come running but she’s sleeping in the corner. She’s the most well behaved bun downstairs, and gets overlooked when I have to take care of the other bunnies’ shenanigans. Thank you for being such a good girl!

“Sadie”

“Matilda”

“Charlie”

Matilda doesn’t really rush the gate like some other rabbits do, which is nice for going in and out of the pen. If I’m carrying the hay bag though, I have to give her some right away or she chases after me at scratches at my leg until I do. I get the message, little girl!

Sadie was attacking the pillow that I use when I’m sitting in her pen last night. At this point, it’s a rabbit pillow, so it’s used to the abuse. Fun for hours and hours, with just a few holes as the result!

After coming home from the vet on Sunday my Charlie took a couple days to get back to eating normally, but he seems nearly back to his old self now. He’s eating well and fighting me when I try to give him his oral meds. That’s my boy! His stitches seem to be healing okay. Once our visitors all go home I’ll bring Charlie downstairs to let him see Piper and make sure there’s no hard feelings between them. I’ll still wait for Charlie to heal completely before I start bonding sessions again, but if he and Piper and okay with each other I’ll move her back upstairs.

Racing the Hay

Matilda snuggles with my feet every evening when I go to sit with her. She’s always very sweet. When I come in the pen with fresh hay for her though, she’s bouncing around all over. She was across her pen when I dropped some hay into the box and she made it in there before the hay did!

Sadie bunny came in kitchen with me yesterday while I was cleaning greens for all the bunnies. She ran all over and even begged me for a little snack. She got one, can you say no to that face?

“Sadie”

“Matilda”

“Piper”

Sleepy Sadie in the daytime and party Sadie in the nighttime. Little girl is certainly a dichotomy. We put cardboard all along the edge of her pen so she chews on that instead of the carpet. She also has these cute little thumps whenever she’s mad, or excited, or just feels like letting us know she has an opinion on something.

Matilda loves stretching out in the end table. It’s a common favorite past time for rabbits: napping. And Matilda is good at it.

Piper played in my mom’s room last night. She ran around so fast she pulled up blankets and spilled pellets. My dad was in the room below her and thought it sounded like a horse was running! She also jumped into my mom’s chair with her briefly. She’s just like a puppy. And all the sounds in our house are new to her, since she’s still a baby. She doesn’t like the microwave, vacuum, phone ringing on TV or crinkly plastic bags, so far.

“Matilda”

“Sadie”

We let Sadie run around in the kitchen for a little while last night during dinner. She ran all around our feet and had a great time scampering about. When she was done she even ran back into her pen all by herself!

Matilda was trying to get a peek at Sadie last night. She’s definitely a curious girl. Later when I was petting her, she was nibbling on my bandaid. It’s indirectly from a rabbit; I cut my finger while cutting up banana, for rabbits. All in the line of duty!

My Butterscotch sometimes eats his extra pellets in the kitchen, and yesterday, even though I was watching him, after he finished he bolted out of the kitchen and into the living room. Odd thing was he ran right past the girls and bolted behind the couch and over to the grandfather clock. He often likes to lay there when there aren’t visitors in the living room, but I didn’t think he’d pass up the chance to sniff three pretty rabbit girls to try and make it there!

Sadie bunny arrived yesterday for a 2 week stay with us. She’s right at the foot of the stairs and can see everything that goes on in the house. She bounces all over with delight when she sees someone. It’s adorable. Matilda doesn’t seem to mind her new roommate. She’s very curious!

Piper and my Charlie had a scuffle when she accidentally got into his pen so we moved her downstairs for a little while in case he’s afraid of her now. He needed some stitches so I’m going to take a break from bonding until he fully recovers. Now our living room is full of girls. My boys down in the dining room must be very happy!

“Matilda”

“Piper”

Matilda makes little snore noises when she’s sleeping. Bunny snores are the best. Why can’t everyone snore like bunnies? Then no one would complain about it! Last night Matilda licked my pants while I was petting her and then jumped up on the couch with me, albeit for just a moment. I love making bunny friends!

Piper likes snuggling with stuffed animals. I have the big stuffed rabbit I put in her pen and she snuggled with it and yesterday she even groomed it. Aww! It’s just slightly bigger than she is. She’s been getting all the toys that my buns (and visitors) have played with and gotten bored with. Baby always gets the hand-me-downs, but she doesn’t seem to mind. It’s all new to her, and the added smell of other bunnies just makes it better!
