My Butterscotch had another bout of stasis on Tuesday, but is feeling better now. We had cleaned his room earlier in the day and think that may have caused it. Stress is a common cause of GI stasis, and changing out everything in his room could certainly be stressful for the little guy. He took a little longer to recover than usual, about 6 hours and still was not totally back to normal the next day. He got the usual course of Metacam, Simethicone and Reglan and continued to get a dose of Reglan twice a day for two after. Fortunately, he likes that well enough that I can just put some in a dish and he licks it right up.
Butterscotch’s temperature did get a little low so I put him in his carrier on a heating pad on low for an hour, and he stayed warm after. He is much more difficult to take a temperature with than my Charlie. He clenches down and fights the thermometer that I know I’m always getting a lower reading than I should be. I follow this guide, but some rabbits are more cooperative than others.
We clipped my Piper’s nail yesterday, and she is not happy about it. I also thought I should see if she would cooperate with temperature taking, in case we someday need to do that with her. Well, she was not having any of that! She fussed and kicked so much the two times that I tried that we gave up. I didn’t even have the thermometer in my hand, but my hand was enough to upset her. Baby steps, we’ll try again next nail clipping.

Yesterday we clipped our Butterscotch’s nails and he was the most beahved that he has ever been for a clipping. He was such a good boy that it only took us about 15 minutes with breaks between feet. In the past it took us three people to be able to do it. Good job, boy!
Last night Glenda was doing bunny runs around her pen and my Hershey and Butterscotch rushed to the edge of their pen to see. They did the same thing when Lilly was running a couple of days ago. I don’t know why they love watching them run so much, but it certainly is entertaining!

Piper and Charlie had another meet and greet through fences. Charlie is definitely interested. I’ll try them living in the same room awhile and see how it goes. I’m also going to take a suggestion from one of my bunny friends and sew some of their fur onto a stuffed animal for the other. Both Charlie and Piper like to groom their stuffed friends, so we’ll how they feel about them smelling like their roommate.
Charlie has started making little buzzing noises when he gets excited. I’ve heard other rabbits do it before, but never from Charlie. I guess he’s feeling pretty good! He buzzes and dances around my feet at treat time. What a cute little guy.
We clipped Hershey’s nails this week and he was so well behaved. He always is during nail clipping. He has dark nails so I’m always nervous clipping him. I only took off a little bit but he’s going to the vet in two weeks so they’ll take a little more off for me.

Glenda came over a few times for petting so far. Finola is a bit more shy. She comes over to check me out, but scoots away after I start petting her. “I don’t know you that well!” That’s okay! Glenda likes sleeping under the end table we have in the middle of her pen. A lot of buns pick that as their nap spot.
Finola is also sleeping under a table: the coffee table. I always try and give rabbits plenty of cover to sleep under. Finola also likes to lay by her gate where she’s right next to my boys. She’s shy with me, but not so much with my bunnies!
We clipped my Hershey’s nails this morning. He’s so good about being clipped. He has dark nails which are very tough for me to clip safely, but he’s so well behaved that it goes pretty smoothly. I’m relieved that his much more antsy siblings have light colored nails!

It was a hot one again yesterday, so I gave Misty a frozen water bottle to snuggle with. She’s the only bun in the house who doesn’t run away from it. After a few hours it starts to defrost and gets a little squishy. Misty decided that was a good time to chew on it. Fortunately I saw her (heard her) and re-wrapped the bottle. She didn’t do it again, but boy I’d hate to have her chew through it and all the water spill out onto the floor. Talk about a wet spot!
We clipped Hershey’s nails yesterday. He’s got short Rex fur, so the nails always look long compared to other buns. They’re dark though, so I’m always nervous cutting them as I can’t see where the blood quick line is. Thank goodness he’s so well behaved about it though. He’s a retired show bunny and is used to being handled so he’s probably the best behaved at clipping time. His little brother….takes 3 people to do it.

We clipped Glenda’s nails this morning and she was such a little angel! She was almost as well behaved as my Charlie, and she barely knows me. She’s just such a mellow bun. I think she almost closed her eyes during it. She thumped once after we put her down, but I don’t think there are any hard feelings. She then proceeded to take a bath, to wash all the human off of her.
Hudson let me pet her this this morning, and she even lay down and started to purr. Aw, she’s such a sweetie! I’m going to miss her when she goes home tomorrow, even if she isn’t the most cuddly of buns. I prefer that to a very needy bunny anyway.

We clipped Butterscotch’s nails last night (fun!) and it didn’t go too badly. He was very unhappy about it though. He didn’t like the human clippers I usually use on Charlie, and seemed more willing for me to use the rabbit clippers. He readily ate all his rasisins, but took off like a shot to his brother when we put him back down on the floor.
CJ has been using the corner of his pen near the boys as a litter box, which happens sometimes. I put puppy pad there, so far he has only pooped on it, but last night he did something else. He decided to tunnel under the pad, and since he is so small he could have hid in the middle of it, and eventually came out the other side. It was very amusing to watch.
CJ also seems to prefer sleeping in the lemonade box at night, rather than in his cage. He will go in there in the daytime if he wants to be undisturbed, but generally seems to prefer sleeping where he can see the boys.

Rusty is quite the snuggle bunny. I spent a couple of hours in his pen petting him yesterday. Now he’s acting like Clover and begging for it when I pass by his pen. He danced around me for a while and later did bunny runs around his pen. I have to be careful though, if he managed to sneak out of his pen, I don’t think I’d be able to catch him. Little guys are wily! He’s been eating all of the greens I’ve given him. He doesn’t seem to care if it’s cilantro, parsley, dandelion, kale or red leaf lettuce. He’s almost gotten used the Clover’s antics, which she did tone down a bit yesterday. We blocked more of her view which seems to calm her.
Bella didn’t want to come home at bedtime last night. She was too busy looking down at the new bunny. I wonder what Rusty made of the big white bunnies upstairs. We attempted to clip her nails this morning. We got 3 of 4 paws done, but it took 3 people to do it. We’re going to have to get Bella used to us touching her paws. She freaks out before I even bring over the clippers. “No! Not that! Super run-away!”

Every so often, Bella lets my dad pet her. Most recently he said he heard her making a clicking noise. She was purring for him! Aw! Makes up for all the times she tried to “attack” him.
This week we clipped Bella’s front nails. We wanted to wait until her paw had healed a bit more and she’s certainly doing better now. She’s got her crazy energy back, digging in the litter box every morning and just about everywhere else she can think of. She had absolutely no trouble giving us a giant temper tantrum when we clipped her. She pops and squirms before I can even get the clippers near her! I almost had to get my brother to help. You shouldn’t need 3 people to clip one bunny’s front nails!
We also cleaned up Charlie’s butt a little. He was much better behaved than Bella. It takes longer to catch him, but once we’re holding him and he can see what I’m doing, he relaxes. He’s smart enough to understand what I’m doing, and that I’m not trying to hurt him. Why can’t he teach that to Bella? I can clip his front nails all alone. It gets easier each time with him, but progressively worse with her. So much for bigger buns being calmer.

My tewwible twosome have been pretty good lately. Bella’s still ripping holes in the blanket, but so far I’ve been able to keep up with her patching them. Now I just need earplugs for when she digs in the litter box at 6 am.
Bella’s also gotten better at learning cues. She’s quick to follow Charlie anywhere since somehow he always knows where the food is. Unfortunately this also means that anytime she hears something crackle (like a bag of veggies or a few dollar bills) she (and Charlie) get all excited and start dancing around for food.
I’ve found I have to be very careful when I paint my nails. For some reason Bella thinks the nail polish smells delicious and tries to eat my nails! She usually runs up to her food and takes a big chompin bite, but in this case it’s attached to me! And here I am purposely trying to keep my nail polish and the smell AWAY from the buns for their health. Now I have do it for mine!
