“Pancakes”

“Station”

Velvety Station went back home today. I go to pet him with my foot last night. He just nudged me and didn’t seem to mind that he was getting a head rub from foot instead of a hand. He’s so soft, it felt pretty good!

Now little Pancakes had the living room to himself for a couple of days. He spends most of his day lounging up against the fence so he can see all the action. Whenever people are walking by, he jumps up like a little puppy. “Hi! Hi! I’m Pancakes! I gotta sniff you!”

Upstairs, my Charlie was eating pellets at treat time. Now he wasn’t about to miss out on a treat, so after a moment of conflict, he super-chewed what pellets he had in his mouth to make room for the treat. Good call, boy.

“Pancakes”

Yesterday Pancakes got a little startled when my laptop spoke back to me. I guess he didn’t think that thing could talk! The little guy has been eating all of his greens and is still very happy to see me when I enter the pen. Station isn’t quite as friendly, but he does come over for petting every day. He’ll be heading home soon, after a long stay, but the living room won’t be empty for very long. And more boys are coming!

“Pancakes”

“Station”

Little Pancakes arrived last night. He’s a very energetic little guy. He was up on the couch with me several times. He started following me around after I went upstairs to give my Bella her medication. I must have smelled like a girl bunny, and he certainly liked that. It’s all boys downstairs right now, so I guess that makes me the only female in town!

Station was pretty unperturbed by Pancakes. I guess when you get to his age, not that much riles you up anymore. I heard him snoring in the evening. “Nothing’s gonna stop me from taking my nap!”

“Hershey & Butterscotch”

We had one day with only one extra bun in the house, so my boys got to be out in the living room for a few hours. My little Hershey can always use the exercise, and he’s pretty good about running a few laps around the room when he has the space too. Both he and his brother Butterscotch are shedding gobs of fur. They’re very shaggy bunnies right now. Fortunately they both let me pluck them a little bit each day.

Station is shedding a little too, but not was much as my boys. He let’s me groom some fur out of him too and clean out his eye crusts. I always think a rabbit who doesn’t know me won’t be so willing to let me dig at the corner of their eye, but most do. Rabbits seem to show affection by licking each other’s eyes, so I guess these buns just think I’m trying to kiss them. *kiss kiss*

“Station”

“Cheeks”

Cheeks was digging at her towel on our couch and making the cutest little oinking noises. I can pretty much get her to jump up on the couch on command now, that is, if she’s in the mood. She also likes to snuggle with my feet. I even pet her with my foot yesterday! She’s heading home today, so no more couch bunny for me. Until the next one comes…

I’m sure Station will miss her too, but have another bun taking her pen tomorrow, so he won’t be lonely for long! He still has my boys who are, I’m sure, more interested in him than he is in them. They’re just young whippersnappers compared to him and probably too high energy for him. Mellow elder buns definitely have their strong points!

Hershey & Butterscotch”

“Cheeks”

“Station”

We had a birthday party for Butterscotch yesterday. He’s four years old now, but still the baby of our buns! Hershey came over right away, but I had to lure Butters over. They ate all their party treats and once they were gone Butters said, “Party’s over!” and ran back into his cottage.

Station always runs over to me when I sit down on the couch in his pen and I pet him for awhile. He likes a rubbing just behind his ears. He’s such a sweet boy.

Cheeks and I had our couch time together again. She also snuggled up against my foot while I was sitting so I bent down and pet her there for a while. My buns aren’t really snugglers like that, except with their mates. I’m not used to something warm and fuzzy suddenly cuddling up with my foot, but it sure does feel nice!

There were a few more fireworks last night, but the AC covered the noise nicely so no one got upset after the first couple of bangs.

“Cheeks”

Cheeks sure is a licker. She sits on the couch with me every evening and snuggles with me like a cat. I pet her and she purrs. When I stop petting her, she starts pawing at me and climbing into my lap. “You weren’t done yet, human!”

There were some fireworks in our neighborhood (illegal in our state, but folks still do ’em) but no one seemed too upset. I turned up my white noise machine and put the AC fan on high. We had the windows open during the day when there were a few stray bangs that I wasn’t expecting. Who sets off fireworks when it’s SUNNY? They startled me and the buns a bit, but after the initial bang everyone seemed to be okay.

We shared our Fourth of July cake with Butterscotch since he’s turning 4 this year. He wasn’t interested in the ice cream cake though. I think it was too cold for him. Brrrrrrr!

“Cheeks”

“Station”

I pet Station for quite a while last night and did a bunch of grooming as well. I had a nice big clump of black fur when I was done. Then I went over to my Butterscotch and groomed him too. He’s got a strong shed line on his back the poor little guy. He’s fortunately gotten so much better about letting me groom him. He just lay there for 10 minutes while I worked last night. Thank goodness for that! He’s normally so fussy that he never lets me pluck.

At one point in the evening, Station went over to the fence to say hello and Cheeks ran right over to sniff him. I think she’s a bit more interested in him than he is her. Cheeks is a very affectionate rabbit. She snuggled with me on the couch again, and later when I was cleaning her litter box, she came over and snuggled with my foot.

“Station”

Cheeks jumped on the couch last night and booted my tray from the seat next to me. She then lay down for a long petting session. She even closed her eyes while I was petting her and gave me a few licks on my hand. What a little sweetie!

I’m leaving the “window” between Cheeks’ and Station’s pens open during the day so they can see each other. Station only comes over occasionally, but Cheeks is always looking over at him. He’s so furry, dark and handsome! She’s probably rather he come over and a give her head a rub, but she’ll have to settle for us humans instead. I don’t think she minds though!

“Station”

“Cheeks”

Cheeks spent a lot of time relaxing yesterday. She’s certainly having a good time. Everyone in the house comes over to pet her and she puts her head right down. She came up on the couch with me in the evening and I pet her for long time.

She sees the other bunnies getting pellets twice a day so I’ve been giving her a scoop in the morning and the evening. She’s certainly not overweight and is very active, so I don’t think it will be a problem for her. Girl could use a little more muscle on her bones for all that digging she does!

Station was running around his pen in the afternoon. Cheeks even came over to see the commotion. He came over and nudged me a few times and even gave my ankle a lick.

My Bella had another vet appointment yesterday. She’s doing pretty well. The vet gave us an appetite stimulant which she gobbled up in a piece of banana. Then just a couple hours later she was chowing down on greens, treats and veggies. Seems like that may have done the trick! We also finished her course of antibiotics, and I know those can upset human tummies, so she may feel better without that in her system too.
